“It’s about what the viewer sees .”

Over the years, I trained myself to always look beyond the cells that I see under the microscope. These cells tell stories, give clues and teach us things we do not know.

Pathology is the study of disease. When a doctor takes a biopsy from a tumor and sends it to the pathology lab, the sample is processed and sliced into very thin sections on glass slides, which are reviewed under the microscope by the pathologist who reviews them and renders the diagnosis.

My art is a digital manipulation of images of cells captured from pathology slides. I have been asked what criteria I use to select for my art, my answer is the piece selects itself. It speaks to me almost like a person at a concert waving and asking to be picked to go on stage.

Cellular art has given me a channel to express my appreciation for nature and for our bodies and their ability to house beauty at the most unexpected state. A malignant cell can change the life of a person and the course of an entire family. It can carry an ominous news and, at the same time, can trigger a will to fight and a desire to survive. Every cell normal, abnormal, benign or malignant has a potential of being part of an art piece that evokes emotions. This art is not about what I see. It is about what the viewer sees. You will see this art through your eyes, your life experience and your current mood.

Enjoy the discovery,
